Today I witnessed a car accident. It was not a fatal one, human wise, but the cars are messed up. It was one of those moments in time where watching from the top of a hill you can see the future but there is not one darned thing you can do about it. Stupid people are the reason I fear some things. I am fearful about carnival rides. (as a teen I loved it when they were in town and you would go as many evenings as possible to flirt, play and spend time with friends and boys). But I have seen the guys working the rides start them with pliers because the knobs were broken and I have also seen hammers banged on the engine to get them going again. I am fearful of someone spitting in my food if I send it back. I am fearful of idiots on the road. Today I was reminded of why there needs to be a stricter driving test.
She was pulling out of a parking lot in her Honda Accord onto a 4 lane road. I honestly don't think that she even looked to the left before pulling out. The Eastbound traffic was clear. To the left (Westbound traffic) was non stop traffic. Car after car with no breaks enough to even merge with them. However, there she was. I saw her stopped at her lane then gun it across. She floored it. There are even tire marks were she started from. She made it maybe 10 feet before she was slammed into by a Ford F150. Then the car behind him, hit him. Thankfully enough everyone else was able to get out of the way. One car ended up in the parking lot where she was coming from to get out of her way. Another car actually spun around in their attempt to avoid collision. Because the Eastbound lanes were open many people fled to those lanes to get away. The Ford had slammed on his breaks but that was not enough to stop before contact. All 4 of his tires were off the rim, his bumper destroyed the back of her car. There is no trunk left on that Honda. The car behind the Ford ran right into the bed of his truck and there is no hood or engine left in that car. The road became a parking lot as both sides of the road where involved. Everyone involved in the accident got out of the cars and started yelling at each other. The Honda woman yelling that he had time to stop and should have let her across because that was the "nice" thing to do. The Ford yelling that she was a crazy B. The guys in the other car, I don't know what kind it was, were upset because they were wanting to get to the beach and that was not going to happen now.
Accidents happen. Sometimes, no most all of the time they could have been avoided. I just believe it is important to learn from them. Take those moments and really study why the choice to do that, was the direction you went instead of the other. I have made many accidents in my life. I have not learned a few times with some of them because they have happened again.
Some accidents are because we are just plain stupid. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. As soon as we embrace our stupid side the sooner we will learn. Just look both ways before making a decision.
No I did not take any pics of the accident. I did my rubbernecking as I drove slowly past but my phone stayed in my purse on the floor. That is one way I avoid texting while driving.
